Cold Weather: How to Protect Your LiFePO4 Battery
Release time:2025-04-06 17:40:40

Charging lithium cells below 0°C (32°F) causes permanent "Lithium Plating." WVMILFE’s integrated BMS prevents this by automatically disabling the charge cycle in freezing temperatures while allowing safe discharge.

While LiFePO4 batteries are excellent for year-round use, their chemical sensitivity to cold is a critical technical factor. At freezing temperatures, lithium ions move slower through the electrolyte. If you force a charge, the ions "plate" the surface of the anode instead of entering it.

Intelligent BMS Safeguards

WVMILFE batteries feature an intelligent Battery Management System (BMS) with a low-temperature cut-off. While the battery can still power your vehicle (discharge) down to -20°C (-4°F), the BMS ensures the charge cycle only initiates when internal temps are safe. For northern fleet operators, this is the most vital feature for ensuring a 10-year battery lifespan.
