Charging Physics: Why CC/CV is Essential for LiFePO4
Release time:2024-11-20 17:57:45

Lithium batteries require a Constant Current / Constant Voltage (CC/CV) charging profile. Using a legacy lead-acid charger with a "De-sulfation" mode can trigger BMS safety faults and damage cells.

Charging a battery is a controlled chemical reaction. Lead-acid batteries use a multi-stage profile that often includes a high-voltage "Equalization" phase to stir up the electrolyte.

The Precision of CC/CV Logic

LiFePO4 batteries require a precise CC/CV approach: The charger provides a steady amperage until the peak voltage is reached, then holds that voltage while current tapers off. This allows the BMS to balance the cells. Always use a charger calibrated for LiFePO4 to ensure the BMS can complete its cycle without interference from lead-acid pulse charging.
